Symbolism
Arms
The blue and white colours recall a family connection with the sea. The maple leaf dividing line represents both Mr. Hargreaves’ life in Canada and the interconnection between French and English. The white and red roses refer to his Northern English heritage.
Crest
The circlet of shamrocks refers to Mr. Hargreaves’ Irish heritage. The bear represents strength and purpose, and the maple leaf coronet reinforces the idea of Canada. Mr. Hargreaves’ career in television and radio broadcasting and print communication is symbolized by the lightning flash and the book.
