Symbolism
Arms
The colours symbolize Ms. Little’s cultural heritage in Scotland and England and her service to Canada. The leafy seadragon alludes to her birthplace in Australia, these being unique to local waters. The seven-pointed stars are from the Australian flag. The Loyalist civil coronets represent her two children and her connection to Samuel Aikens, their United Empire Loyalist immigrant ancestor who settled in Nova Scotia in 1784. The white disc represents a pearl, symbolic of new beginnings, and which is often associated with dragons in the Orient. The infinity symbol evokes the limitless and never-ending possibilities of life.
Crest
The Loyalist civil coronet is taken from the Arms, and the raven from the Aikens Clan badge. The tree signifies Ms. Little’s passion for genealogy and her family history.
Motto
These three important precepts for Ms. Little and her children refer respectively to Ms. Little’s membership in the United Empire Loyalist Association of Canada; the HMS Endeavour commanded by James Cook, and thus to the Captain James Cook Elementary School which her children attended; and loyalty to the Crown, country, family, and friends.
