Symbolism

Badge

The roc, a fierce and gigantic mythological bird, symbolizes the wing’s role of protecting the vastness of Canada’s sovereign airspace. It creates also a visual pun to the function of radar operations control (or ROC), provided by the unit. The aurora borealis is indicative of the wing’s northern emphasis and the North Warning System.

Motto

The Motto, meaning “Partners in peace”, alludes to the partnership between Canadian and United States Armed Forces personnel within the unit, which functioned under the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD).
