Symbolism

Arms

The red, white, and blue relate to the colours of the Royal Union Flag, thus symbolizing Major Fisher’s maternal Loyalist ancestors and roots in Great Britain. The wavy band, representing one wave length of a mathematical sine curve, alludes to his mother’s birth name of Lorena Artilla Sine. The pike, or lucy, honours Major Fisher’s great-grandmother Lucy Ann Lay. The six-pointed stars represent the six major wars since 1759 in which both his maternal and paternal ancestors fought.

Crest

The armoured arm symbolizes the generations of Fishers who have served in the military. The balance recalls Major Fisher’s service as a Justice of the Peace in Ontario. The Loyalist military coronet represents Major Fisher’s descent from the United Empire Loyalists David Shorey and Jeptha Hawley.

Motto

Meaning “Be mindful of your ancestors,” this Latin phrase speaks to Major Fisher’s role of being the keeper of his family history.
