Symbolism
Arms
The shells, a symbol of pilgrimage, represent Mr. Stanton’s faith journey as a Christian. Their number refers to the five members of his immediate family. The blue background, representing water, alludes to his love of sailing, while the red and white refer to his adopted country, Canada.
Crest
The hand symbolizes the help the Stantons have received and owe to others. The star honours Mr. Stanton’s country of birth, the United States of America, as it appears in the coat of arms of its first president, George Washington. The cloud is a biblical symbol of divine presence.
Motto
This Latin verse from Matthew 25:35, meaning “I was a stranger, and ye took me in”, expresses Mr. Stanton’s gratitude for the welcome his family received when immigrating to Canada.
