Symbolism
Arms
The blue and white colours, as well as the wavy bands, represent water and the passages of one’s life. For Dr. Robichaud, water refers to the ocean crossing undertaken by her ancestors when they came to settle in Canada. The petals of the stylized flower represent her five children, and the white pearl in the centre is a symbol of wisdom. The design in the shape of a cross symbolizes the importance of the Catholic faith for her family.
Crest
As a mammal known for its intelligence, its ability to adapt and its aptitude for communication, the dolphin embodies the ideal characteristics of the scientific researcher. The triskelion, a symbol with three spirals, evokes Dr. Robichaud’s three ancestral origins: the Poitou region of France for the paternal Robichaud line; Brittany, also in France, for the maternal Gervais line; and Canada, the country to which these families immigrated and which they helped to build.
Motto
This Latin phrase means “In the depths, wisdom.”
