Symbolism

Arms

Blue is a colour associated with policing, and represents Mr. Clifford’s service as a police officer. The doves symbolize peace. The Jerusalem cross represents Mr. Clifford’s faith and his policing service in the Holy Land.

Crest

The owl, as a symbol of wisdom, represents Mr. Clifford’s dedication to sharing knowledge to cadets in the Canadian Armed Forces and as an instructor at the Ontario and Canadian police colleges. The naval crown evokes his service as a naval reservist.

Motto

This Latin phrase, meaning “In the service of humanity,” applies to many areas of Mr. Clifford’s activity and experience.
