Symbolism

Arms

The black shield with two horizontal white lines and three white discs appear in Hungerford arms from Ireland. The oars and gold disc refer to Mr. Hungerford’s accomplishment as an Olympic gold medallist rowing for Canada in 1964.

Crest

The beaver, well-known as a Canadian emblem, is a symbol of The Vancouver Club, whose membership has now included five generations of the family. The sickle and the peppercorn garb are derived from other Hungerford arms.

Motto

This French phrase, meaning “And God my support,” is the traditional Hungerford motto.
