The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The red field and the ermine fess are traditional elements of Crawford arms. The deer’s head caboshed is one of the traditional Crawford crests. The gold border is a mark of a second son in Scottish heraldry.
Crest
The Newfoundland partridge recalls the home province of Mr. Crawford.
