Symbolism

Arms

The griffin on a black field is a traditional element of Brice coats of arms, Mr. Oland’s great-great-grandfather being Worthington Brice, from Bristol, England.

Crest

A lion’s head Ermine transfixed by an arrow is one of the crests of the Brice family, Mr. Oland’s great-great-grandfather being Worthington Brice, from Bristol, England.

Motto

This Spanish phrase means “Truth and honour.” The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The use of Spanish possibly alludes to the Spanish background of Mr. Oland’s wife, Herlinda de Bedia y Martel.
