Symbolism
Arms
The wolf is a symbol of loyalty and strong family ties. A hunter with keen senses, it also represents the qualities essential for Sgt. Ward’s career in military intelligence. The wolf is holding a sword, which is also an indication of Sgt. Ward’s career in the armed forces. The rose symbolizes his love for his wife, Shelley White.
Crest
The thunderbird symbolizes power and protection, as well as the aerial fighting spirit of the Royal Canadian Air Force, where Sgt. Ward has made his career. The lightning bolt represents the information gathered as a feature of his career in military intelligence. The maple leaves are a symbol of Canada and of Sgt. Ward’s military service to the country, and the stars honour his Acadian heritage.
Motto
This Latin phrase means “Death rather than dishonour” and represents Sgt. Ward’s commitment to duty and his sense of personal responsibility.
