Symbolism

Arms

The elm tree (orme in French) refers to the Ferme des ormes (“Farm of the Elms”), which his grandfather the Honourable Paul Comtois, P.C., inherited and managed for a long time. The garbs allude to the Honourable Paul Comtois’s training as an agronomist and to his work as a farmer.

Crest

The miner’s pick recalls that the Honourable Paul Comtois, P.C., was Minister of Mines and Technical Surveys of Canada (1957-1961) before becoming lieutenant governor of Quebec (1961-1966).

Motto

This French phrase, SOIS FRANC ET HONNÊTE, means “Be upfront and honest.”
