Symbolism
Arms
Green and gold are the colours of Saskatchewan, the province where Mr. Goby resides. The gold rays symbolize the sun. The vertical gold bands represent straight furrows of a field of wheat.
Crest
The rose represents England, the country of origin of the Goby family. The wings evoke the badge of the Royal Flying Corps in which Mr. Goby’s paternal grandfather, Arthur Goby, served during the First World War. The tower is a canting reference to the maiden name of Mr. Goby’s paternal grandmother, Eva Mary Castle. The maple seeds represent Canada. The fish are a canting reference to Mr. Goby’s surname, goby being a type of fish.
Motto
This Latin phrase, meaning “Stand on giants’ shoulders,” recognizes all those who have come before and motivates those of the present to become a giant for those who follow.
