Symbolism
Arms
Blue and green represent the aurora borealis and the sky of Manitoba, Mr. Laurencelle’s province of birth and residence. The wheel alludes to the Red River cart, an important element of the settlement of Manitoba. The ox represents endurance, strength of spirit, hard work, and tenacity, qualities which were crucial to Mr. Laurencelle’s ancestors who worked as farmers and labourers in French Manitoba. The crosses symbolize the family’s Christian faith.
Crest
The oak is renowned for its solidity and its endurance. Its acorns represent the fruit of hard work but also family and generational ties. Manitoba’s bird emblem, the owl is a symbol of wisdom and perceptiveness, qualities which are essential in Mr. Laurencelle’s profession as an advisor and lawyer. The wheat represents Manitoba’s agricultural heritage as well as the strength and perseverance of its first settlers.
Motto
This Latin phrase means “To Serve the Truth” and encompasses the fundamental principles which guide Mr. Laurencelle along his professional and personal paths.
