Symbolism
Arms
The green section represents both Mr. Werklund’s agricultural roots as well as his interest in the environment. The black section symbolizes Mr. Werklund’s experience in the oil and gas industry. The gold discs on the green background evoke the successful crops produced from working the land. The gold disc on black alludes to the idea of “black gold,” a phrase attributed to finding oil. The star represents the many entrepreneurial endeavours and leadership roles of Mr. Werklund’s career.
Crest
The eagle represents the idea of freedom. The garbs of wheat shown in the gold and blue provincial colours represent Mr. Werklund’s agricultural roots in Alberta. The wild roses, the provincial flower, symbolize Mr. Werklund’s thankfulness for his heritage in Alberta
Motto
This phrase expresses Mr. Werklund’s belief in having motivation to act throughout one’s life.
