Symbolism

Arms

The red symbolizes Canada and Mr. Knight’s roots. The four narrow gold bars represent the four strings on a Hofner bass guitar. Mr. Knight is an accomplished guitarist and uses performance with the instrument for much of his community service. Gold is a colour closely associated with the beautiful veneer of guitars. It also refers to the Queen’s Golden Jubilee of 2002, as Mr. Knight and his father met Her Majesty during her Canadian tour.

Crest

The coronet symbolizes Mr. Knight’s movement back and forth across the Canadian-American boundary for community service. The lion represents his Scots’ heritage and his own spirit of determination. By holding the flag, the lion evokes the idea of upholding the honour of Mr. Knight’s family.

Motto

Meaning “O sweet smell of success”, this is a Latin translation of one of Mr. Knight’s favourite lyrics by George Harrison.
