Symbolism

The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The blue and white chequered stripe on a gold background is a common feature of the arms of Stewart families. The jagged lines may symbolize the Rockies, near Mr. Stewart’s place of residence in Alberta. The wheat and millrinds likely allude to his family’s agricultural heritage. The stag’s head is a feature of Thompson coats of arms and thus honours his paternal grandmother.

The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The dividers refer to Mr. Stewart’s scientific career. Their pointing upwards may allude to his interest in astrophysics.
