The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The white and red shield divided by an indented diagonal line as well as the stars are found in other Scottish Allan coats of arms. The gold border is a Scottish method of differencing that indicates that Colonel Allan’s father was a second son.
