Symbolism

Arms

The green background represents the central place given to green technology by Mr. Mann’s company, Mann Engineering, in retrofitting commercial buildings for energy efficiency. The enlarging diagonal band represents the growing importance of green technology, based on the sun’s energy. The four white discs represent Mr. Mann’s children by their number and the moon by their colour and shape. The moon and the sun represent cool energy (yin) and hot energy (yang) respectively, illustrating a world-view found in his wife’s Chinese heritage.

Crest

The horse represents the horses that Mr. Mann raises. The lightning flash evokes the power that Mr. Mann learned to manage as an engineer.

Motto

YIELD NOT TO ADVERSITY.
