Symbolism

Arms

The snake, symbolizing health and healing, represents Dr. Ruben’s career as a physician. The wolf, known for strong family bonds, stands for the importance of family. The lion brandishing a sword is taken from the flag of Sri Lanka, representing his family’s origins. The lion, also featured in the arms of the United Kingdom and Canada, further recalls that he has lived in these countries.

Crest

The Sri Lankan man reading represents Dr. Ruben’s commitment to learning and reflection. Red and white are the colours of Canada, indicating that this branch of the Ruben family has become Canadian.

Motto

This phrase is a version of the guiding principle for doctors: “First, do no harm.”
