Symbolism
Arms of the Nova Scotia Technical College
The hammers, electromagnet and surveyor’s bob allude to the college’s mandate as a technical school, especially focusing on civil, electrical, mechanical and mining engineering. The thistle is taken from the Nova Scotia coat of arms, while the salmon on the wavy band appeared on the province’s coat of arms used between 1868 and 1929 as a reference to its maritime history.
Motto
This Scots Gaelic expression, meaning “Experience and work,” evokes the college’s vocation as a technical school.
