The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The tau cross likely alludes to Dr. Leddy’s Catholic faith. The interlaced keys are found in the coats of arms of both the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Saskatchewan, of which he was Dean, and Exeter College, Oxford University, where he did his doctoral studies.
