The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. A red lion on a white background is frequently found in arms belonging to persons with the surname Angus. The thistle alludes to Mr. Angus’s Scottish origins, while the yellow discs likely refer to his grandfather, a banker and philanthropist.
Crest
The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The red lion repeats the reference in the Arms. The fleur-de-lis likely refers to the fact that Mr. Angus was a resident of the province of Quebec, while the Maltese cross is an indication of his involvement in the Order of St. John, in which he was a Knight of Justice.
