Symbolism
Arms
Blue and white are the historic colours of Greece, Mr. Politis’ ancestral homeland. The bows symbolize his love of hunting and his long involvement in the careful conservation of wildlife. There are three of them as a reference to his three children.
Crest
The coronet represents the idea of a walled city, a polis, and thus refers to Mr. Politis’ family name. His first name is symbolized by the partial figure of St. George, who, as a warrior, also represents the concept of Mr. Politis being a warrior on behalf of the good of the community. The gold horn is an allusion to the “Golden Horn”, a famous geographical feature in Constantinople, the city where members of his family resided for many years. As a hunting horn, it also links the crest to the theme of the arms.
Motto
Written in the ancient Greek script of Euboea, this Greek phrase means “Take up the fight”. It is traditionally attributed to King Leonidas of Sparta at the Battle of Thermopylae.
