Symbolism
Arms
Blue and white are the colours of the flag of Quebec, Mr. Lanouette’s home province. The three golden blue flag flowers are reminiscent in number and colour of the fleurs-de-lis in a police chief’s rank insignia in Quebec, alluding to Mr. Lanouette’s career. The wavy line, symbolizing water, and the blue flag flowers, a wetland plant, refer to the name Lanouette, based on the French word noue, meaning “marshy place.” The infinity knot also alludes to the name Lanouette, which phonetically suggests the French verb nouer, meaning “to tie.” The tapered ovals resemble kayaks, representing Mr. Lanouette’s favourite pastime. The arrangement of the four ovals separated by the infinity knot is inspired by the logo of the Thérèse-De Blainville intermunicipal police service, of which Mr. Lanouette is chief of police.
Crest
The Arctic fox symbolizes intelligence and cunning, skills that are necessary for Mr. Lanouette in his responsibilities as chief of a police service and that also served him well when he was a detective and inspector. The paddle is an additional reference to his love of kayaking.
Motto
These French words mean “Kindness, confidence.”
