Arms
Blue comes from Dr. Marchand’s birthstone, the sapphire. The white bar entwined with a yellow band recalls the rod of Aesculapius and thus his profession as a physician. The ermine spots evoke the fur trade, alluding to Dr. Marchand’s name, which is French for “merchant,” and to his family, which settled in Canada during the era of New France. They also refer to the entrepreneurial nature of members of his family. The number of spots symbolizes the eight Beatitudes from the teachings of Jesus, values that Dr. Marchand holds dear.
Crest
The purse further alludes to Dr. Marchand’s name. The lozenge represents a diamond, a gemstone known for its strength, whose brilliance symbolizes the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship that is so important to him.
Motto
This French expression, meaning “Create and prosper,” conveys the spirit of entrepreneurship of Dr. Marchand and his family over several generations.
