Symbolism
Arms
The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The books symbolize knowledge and indicate that the College is a centre of learning. The Latin words ARTES and SCIENTIA mean “arts” and “science” respectively, thus referring to the name and mandate of the college. The falcon represents the “hawk” element of the word “Mohawk” in the College’s name. The trillium is the floral emblem of Ontario, where the College is located.
Crest
The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The moose (“elk” in the blazon) alludes to one of the supporters of the arms of Ontario. The trillium repeats the symbolism of the Arms, with its colouring in red alluding to Canada.
Motto
This Latin phrase means “Science is the work of all.”
