The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The first three quarters are commonly found in the arms of individuals bearing the Scottish surname MacLauchlan. The oak tree possibly recalls the oak leaf shoulder badge of the Calgary Highlanders, the regiment which LCol MacLauchlan commanded during the Second World War. The red border indicates that he is descended from a younger son.

The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The badger’s head likely alludes to the sporran worn by officers as part of the Highland dress uniform of the Calgary Highlanders.
