Symbolism
Arms
Red refers to the Canadian Army, and gold to Mr. Forth’s long service therein. The chevron symbolizes the act of striving upward towards one’s life goals. The crowns allude to the leadership skills that Mr. Forth has developed during his military career. The blue wavy stripes on a gold background are a canting reference to the municipality of Lakefield, Ontario, where Mr. Forth grew up, the blue stripes representing a lake, and the gold ones, fields of crops.
Crest
The cat represents a sequence of black cats that have been a part of Mr. Forth’s life. The blue wool refers to Scotland and the red to England, these being the lands of some of his close ancestors.
Motto
This phrase is a piece of advice which contains a pun on Mr. Forth’s name.
