Senator Macnaughton received his arms from the Lord Lyon King of Arms, who based the shield on the arms of the Chief of the Clan Macnaughton, which contain a hand holding a cross crosslet fitchée and a tower. The mace refers to Senator’s Macnaughton’s service as Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada.
