Arms
The Loyalist civil coronet honours Fr. Smith’s loyalist heritage dating to Andrew Smith, who settled in Sunbury County, New Brunswick in 1783. The open book symbolizes the life of scholarship and teachings which Fr. Smith practises as a professor at St. Thomas University, Fredericton. The cross is a reference to his profession as a priest of the Roman Catholic Church, and the Christian and loyalist heritage of his family.
Motto
This means “He judged me faithful”, and is taken from 1 Timothy 1: 12.
