Symbolism

Arms

The shield is based on a bookplate belonging to Mr. Contant’s father, Joseph Aimé Cyrille Contant, a high school teacher in Montreal. The arms refer to the Lachenaie seigneury where the first Canadian-born member of the Contant family established himself at the beginning of the 18th century.

Crest

The Huron honours the Huron Nation and one of Mr. Contant’s ancestors, Roch Manitouabéouich, and his daughter, Marie Olivier dit Sylvestre, known as Outchibahabanoukoueo. The coronet of maple leaves and fleurs-de-lis indicates Mr. Contant’s French-Canadian identity.

Motto

S’IL EN RESTE, meaning "If any remains", is a reference to Mr. Contant’s generous spirit and his wish to put the needs of others before his own.
