Symbolism
Badge
The design follows the standard pattern for a Canadian municipal police service badge. The shield at the centre is that of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton as adopted in 1973. It refers to the confluence of the Ottawa and Rideau rivers and the fact that Ottawa is the capital of Canada. The Service’s motto is COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMUNAUTAIRE. The Royal Crown on the top of the badge symbolizes the fact that the Service enforces the Crown’s laws, while the maple leaves and trillium flower are references to Canada and Ontario.
