The white and blue colours are those of the Finnish flag, and thus refer to Mr. Hongisto's paternal ancestry. The chevron is a device found on arms used in the Belyea family, and thus refers to Mr. Hongisto's maternal line. The Loyalist coronets refer to Henry and John Belyea, ancestors of Mr. Hongisto's mother, who came from New York and settled in New Brunswick following the American Revolution. The pine tree refers to the name Hongisto, which means pine in Finnish.
Crest
The crest combines the two charges from the arms.
Motto
A Latin phrase meaning "Every day I learn."
