The cross of tees allude to the cross on the shield of the Archangel Michael found in the arms of Dumfrees, Scotland, the home of Mr. Paterson’s paternal grandfather. The oak leaves and golf ball allude to the Royal Ashburn Golf Club which Mr. Paterson founded in the environs of the Oak Ridges moraine.
