Symbolism

Arms

The green colour and the acorns appear in the arms of Oakham, Rutland, the area of Mr. Sellars’s birth in England. The tree also alludes to the city of London, Ontario, “The Forest City”. In addition, the tree is a symbol of Mr. Sellars’s being employed as the president of a large tree nursery. The dragons are symbols of the strength and wisdom of Mr. Sellars’s wife through his long marriage and also the passion and tenacity required to raise a strong family.

Crest

The beaver relates to the combat engineers that he commanded. As well, it refers to the Royal Canadian Regiment by the V in its arms, taken from the Royal Cypher VRI for Her Majesty Queen Victoria. The horseshoe relates to Oakham, Rutland.
