Symbolism

Arms

The Society is a group of Canadian surgeons treating cancer patients. The crab is an ancient astrological symbol for the constellation of Cancer, and makes a reference to this medical specialization.

Crest

The hand rising from the fortified tower represents the fortitude of cancer patients as well as their determination to rise above the disease, under the care of their surgeons. The fleam is an ancient surgical tool.

Motto

Meaning “Pestilences must be overcome”.
