Symbolism
Arms
Red and white are the colours of Canada while blue represents water and the importance it has in Her Honour’s life. The pipes and baton indicate Her Honour’s music career, including her work as a choir director and an organist.
Crest
The boat resembles the Mercy Coles, a Salt Bank schooner once owned by Her Honour. It refers to her love of sailing. The streamer’s colours allude to the provincial flag.
Supporters
The herons are graceful water-dwelling birds native to Prince Edward Island, and the Lady’s slipper flowers are the provincial floral emblem. The traditional heraldic stylization of water continues the theme of the importance of water to Her Honour.
Motto
This Latin phrase, meaning “In harmony”, refers on one level to the importance of music in Her Honour’s life, and on another level to her philosophy of life.
