Symbolism

Arms

The open book and the sword are the heraldic symbols for St. Paul. The shamrock represents Bishop Benjamin Cronyn, the Irish-born first Bishop of Huron. The star represents Bishop Isaac Hellmuth, who came from a Polish Jewish family, was the diocese’s second bishop and first cathedral dean, and who also founded the University of Western Ontario.

Motto

This Latin phrase means "The sword of the spirit" (Ep 6:17).
