Symbolism
Arms
The red chevron and black crosses are features of other arms within the Scottish Kennedy clan. The bull’s head represents the highland origin of the family from the Isle of Tyree, in Argyllshire. The Bible represents the vocation and avocation of several generations of Kennedys being teachers or ministers of religion. Mr. Kennedy’s arms are differenced from his father’s by a crescent on the Bible, to show that he is a second son.
Crest
The dolphin is a differenced version of that of the Marquess of Ailsa, Chief of the Kennedys.
Motto
This phrase was devised by Mr. Kennedy to respond to the clan Chief’s motto “Avise la fin”, meaning “consider the end”.
