Symbolism
Badge
The figure of Mercury symbolizes swift communication, since Mercury was a messenger of the Roman gods. The lightning flashes allude to electronics. These symbols were used by the branch’s predecessor units: Mercury by the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals; and the flashes, or sparks, by the former Royal Canadian Air Force Telecommunications Branch and the Royal Canadian Navy Communicators.
