Symbolism
Arms
The use of the arrows and the blue fess in the arms are taken from the predominant pattern of Scottish grants of arms to Hutchisons. In order to signal this as a grant to a Canadian Hutchison, the feathers are styled with the upper part of a maple leaf at their ends. The gold discs indicate Mr. Hutchison’s profession as an accountant.
Crest
The elk marks Mr. Hutchison’s long-time service in preserving the natural wapiti (elk) population and the wild roses signify his home province of Alberta.
Motto
This Latin phrase means “Honesty, daring, courage”, and indicates Mr. Hutchison’s life-long ideals of strength and perseverance in character.
