Symbolism
Arms
The red colour alludes to the name Redmile. The cushions are symbolic of authority, and for Bishop Redmile the three of them create a reference to the authority of scripture, tradition, and inspired reason in Christian teaching. The scallop shells pay tribute to Bishop Redmile’s mother’s family name, Schell, and to St. James the Apostle, whose attribute is a scallop shell. St. James is the patron saint of the Diocese of Richmond in the Christian Episcopal Church of Canada, of which Bishop Redmile is the bishop.
Motto
This phrase is based on II Samuel 22:33, “God is my strength and power”.
