Symbolism
Arms
Green and gold are the colours of many Dowd arms in Ireland, Bishop Dowd’s ancestral homeland. Green is also the colour of hope and gold the colour of the glory of heaven. The diagonal band symbolizes a deacon’s stole which is the mark of a servant. The sun recalls the “sun of justice” described by the biblical prophet Malachi. The shofar is a horn symbolizing the action of announcing the glory of God and the coming day of the Lord.
Motto
This Latin motto means “One in heart and mind” (Acts 4:32).
