The use of a defaced blue ensign was a privilege given to the club by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty following the bestowal of Royal designation on the club in 1911. The letters V and I refer to Vancouver Island. The Royal Crown in the ensign and the burgee indicates the club’s royal designation.
