Symbolism

Arms

The use of the three bars on the shield alludes to other Scottish Cameron arms. The bars also suggest the spines of a stack of books, a reference to Mr. Cameron’s prolific output as a historical novelist. The stars refer to the insignia of a commanding officer in the United States Navy, a position Mr. Cameron once held. Pierced, it is a spur-rowel, a symbol of chivalry, for which Mr. Cameron has had an interest all his life.

Crest

The heron and lacs d’amour knot are favourite symbols of Mr. Cameron. The maple leaves refer to his Canadian citizenship and the stars echo the symbolism of the arms.

Motto

This phrase in Old French means “He who accomplished more is more worthy”.
