Symbolism

Arms

The design is based on the arms granted to Mr. Greenwood’s cousin, Major Alexander Greenwood. Major Greenwood’s arms are identical except for the colours: the saltires (X shapes) and cotises (narrow chevrons on either side of the main chevron) have been changed from white to gold. This alteration makes the arms unique, and at the same time it clearly indicates the family relationship between Alexander and Kemble, as well as the ancient lineage in England.

Crest

This is identical to Alexander Greenwood’s crest.

Motto

This Latin phrase means “So that I may be of use” and it is the same motto as Alexander Greenwood’s.
