Symbolism

Arms

The gold shield with the blue and white chequerboard central stripe is a traditional feature of Scottish Stewart Arms. The three horses’ heads represent the horses St. James, George, and Elizabeth that Mr. Stewart, in his capacity as Riding Master for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), trained for presentation to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Crest

The Celtic cross symbolizes the Presbyterian adherents among Mr. Stewart’s Scottish and Irish ancestors. The hawthorne flowers allude to his ancestral farm named “Hawthorne Farm”.

Motto

This Latin motto meaning “For God, Queen, and country” also alludes to Regina (Latin for “queen”), the location of the RCMP basic training facility.
