Symbolism
Arms
The colour red refers to the maroon beret of the airborne military forces, marking Major Gleeson’s continuing association with the Airborne Regiment Association. Further references to his service as a parachutist are the parachutes in the chief and the arching division line. Pegasus is a symbol of airborne forces, and it also represents fame, eloquence, and contemplation.
Crest
The fleur-de-lis marks Major Gleeson’s home province of Quebec and his fluency in the French language. As the eagle possesses strength and flying ability, it is often associated with military parachute units.
Motto
This means “Always vigilant” and reflects the long personal and family tradition of service to the country and the qualities of watchfulness and preparedness.
