Symbolism
Arms
The red, yellow and blue are taken from the arms of the French regions from where the majority of Renauds in New France came. The crenellated chief represents the ramparts of Québec City; its colour alludes to the plentiful snow of the adopted country. The wavy lines symbolize the sea that the Renaud ancestors crossed to reach New France, as well as the St. Lawrence River, on whose banks they settled.
Crest
The ship recalls the mode of transportation used to reach New France. Its unfurled sails convey the hope that the Renaud ancestors placed in this migration. The blue flag iris, Quebec’s provincial flower, represents the province where most Renauds live today.
Motto
This phrase means “Hope, courage, future”.
